Applications are incited front suitably qualified Tanzanians to fill the following vacant positions at the Dar es Salaam University College of Education (DUCE) situated at Chang’ombe, Temeke district in Dar es Salaam.

Job Title: Tutorial Assistant (5 posts)

Area of Specialization

Faculty of Science
Fine Mathematics ( I post)
Physics (Electronics) ( I post)
Physics (Advanced Mechanics) ( I post)
Chemistry (Environmental Chemistry)(I post)
Biology (Etitomology) ( I post)
Qualifications:
Applicant must a holder of a Bachelor Degree from a recognized University with a minimum GPA of 3.8 or higher and a minimum score of B+ in the relevant subject. Qualified Women arc encouraged to apply.

Duties and Responsibilities
This is a training post; the staff is required to undergo Masters Degree training programme:
Undergo an induction course in pedagogic skills for those who had none before;
Understudy senior members, including attending lectures and seminars, tutorials and practical training:
Conduct tutorial seminars and practical;
Assist in research, consultancy and outreach activities; and
Perform any other duties that may be assigned by the relevant authorities
Salary Scale: PUTS 1
Job Title: Assistant Lecturer (5 posts)

Area of Specialization

Faculty of Education
Education (Literature teaching methods) (I post) should be a holder of MEd, or MA(Ed) and Literature subject in undergraduate studies with a score of B+ or above
Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences
Communication Skills (I post) should be a holder of Master in English / Linguistics
Faculty of Science
Pure/Applied Mathematics ( I post)
Chemistry (Inorganic Chemistry) (I post)
Information Technology (Database Systems) (I post)
Qualifications:
Applicant must be a Master’s Degree in a relevant field with at least a GPA of 4.0 out of 5 and a Minimum (WA of 3.8 out of 5 or its equivalent in the First Degree with a Minimum score of B+ in the Relevant Subject or its equivalent. Qualified Women are encouraged to apply.

(b) Duties and Responsibilities:

To undergo an induction course in pedagogic skills for those who had none before;
To carry out lectures, conduct tutorials, seminars and practical for undergraduate programmes;
To prepare and present case studies
To conduct and publish/ disseminate research results
To recognize students having difficulties, intervene and provide help and support;
To participate in consultancies and community services under supervision;
To attend workshops, conferences and symposia; and
To perform any other duties that may be assigned by the relevant authorities.
Salary Scale: PUTS 2.1
Job Title: Laboratory Technician II (1 post)

(a) Qualifications: Holder of Ordinary Diploma (NTA 6) or equivalent in relevant subject area.

(b) Duties and Responsibilities:

(i) Carries out specified tasks connected with laboratory practical, students projects, research, consultancy and services under supervision

(ii) Assists in the repair and maintenance of laboratory facilities

(iii) Assists senior staff in relevant fields of laboratory operations

(iv) Perform any other duties that may be assigned by one’s reporting officer.

(c) Salary Scale: PUSS 2

Job Title: Laboratory Scientist II (1 post)

Qualifications:
Holder of B.Sc. in relevant field or Higher Diploma or equivalent from a recognized institution with registration as Graduate Scientist or Technician Scientist where applicable.

(b) Duties and Responsibilities:

(i) Assists in all technical Duties and Responsibilities requiring a higher degree of planning and design competence in the areas of student’s practical/projects;

(ii) Assists in research and development activities;

(iii) Assists in consultancy activities;

(iv) Assists in maintenance of facilities;

(v) Performs any other Duties and Responsibilities as assigned by one’s reporting officer.

(c) Salary Scale: PUSS 4

Job Title: Transcriber II (1 post)

(a) Qualifications: Holder of a Bachelor Degree in Special Education for the Blind.

(b) Duties and Responsibilities:

(i) Transcribes undergraduates handouts, chapters and passages and books,

(ii) Services Braille’s and audio-visual compact cassettes.

(iii) Makes minor maintenance.

(iv) Reads for blind undergraduates and records books for talking books.

(v) Performs any other duties as may be assigned by one’s reporting officer.

(c) Salary Scale: PUSS 4

Job Title: Library Assistant 11 (1 post)

(a) Qualifications: Holder of a Diploma (NTA 6) in Library and Information studies or records archives and information management from a recognised institution or equivalent qualification.

(b) Duties and Responsibilities: Performs more routine and clerical

Duties and Responsibilities

Undergoes on the job training on library duties
Performs library clerical duties
Registration of readers
Issuing of books to readers
Receiving books from readers
Handling of simple enquiries from readers,
Bibliographical searching,
Performs any duties as may be assigned by one’s reporting officer.
(c) Salary Scale: PGSS 4

Job Title: Driver II (I post)

(a) Qualifications: Holder of Form IV Certificate of Secondary School Education with passes in Kiswahili and English plus Trade Test certificate in motor vehicle maintenance/mechanic at NVTA I and a valid Driving License in the relevant class with at least three years continuous driving experience. Must have a certificate of competence in driving from a recognized Driving School.

(b) Duties and Responsibilities:

(i) Drives DUCE vehicles skillfully.

(ii) Maintains and keeps up-to-date log-books.

(iii) Adheres to Maintenance Schedules.

(iv) Keeps motor vehicle in good running conditions and reports immediately faults and defects to Transport officer.

(v) Undertakes minor repairs when necessary.

(vi) Ensures that valid documents are obtained prior to commencing any journey.

(vii) Ensures safety and cleanliness of the vehicle at all times.

(viii) Take care of the vehicle assigned to him/her by carrying out standard checks.

(ix) Checks validity of relevant documents such as insurance, TLB, Plying fees and reports the same to the Transport Officer for necessary action.

(x) Performs messenger Duties and Responsibilities such as dispatching documents/letters, collecting mail, photocopying of documents

(xi) Performs any other duties as may be assigned by the supervisors.

(c) Salary Scale: PGSS 2

NOTE:

All applicants must be citizens of the United Republic of Tanzania;
For Tutorial Assistants positions, applicants should not be above 30 years old;
Women are encouraged to apply;

Presentation of forged academic certificates and other information in the Curriculum Vitae shall necessitate legal action;
Certificates from foreign examination bodies for ordinary and advanced level of secondary education should be certified by the National Examination Council of Tanzania (NECTA);
Certificates from foreign Universities should be verified by the Tanzania Commission for Universities (TCU).
